At the Pilates Zone studio, our method is derived from the work of Joseph and Clara Pilates, with especial focus on the methodological advancements developed by Ron Fletcher.

Pilates Method

Pilates refers to the Pilates Method — a unique system of movement that creates balance, precision and flowing energy in the whole body — developed by Joseph and Clara Pilates.

Above are an old colorized portrait of Joseph Pilates and a photograph (circa 1930) of the Pilates’ original studio in New York City. Shown standing are Joseph Pilates (left) and Clara Pilates (right).

A complete Pilates program involves a series of specific exercises using various pieces of equipment, as well as exercises done on the floor. The Method is designed to integrate all the muscle groups for overall health and fitness; you also experience a feeling of complete well–being from the inside out.

Ron Fletcher Work™

Ron Fletcher was a student at the Pilates’ original studio during the 1930’s in New York City. He also danced with The Martha Graham Company. His combined knowledge of Pilates Method and modern dance technique allowed him to develop his own Pilates style. He opened a studio on the West Coast and, with the blessing of Clara Pilates, took the Pilates Method in his own direction.

Today, Ron Fletcher is considered one of the five master teachers of the Pilates Method. The Ron Fletcher Program of Study, arguably one of the finest and most rigorous training programs in the world, disseminates the incredible body of work developed over his lifetime.
